Dear to whom it may concern:

I have been a loyal faithful customer to Target compare to other stores like Walmart, K-mart, and ect. I actually don’t mind that the prices are sometimes a little more expensive than Walmart. I shop with Target, because of the customer service and the knowledge of American made products. I want our money to stay here and make sure that I am going to support a company that cares about their shoppers/customers. I also love that we can stack coupons, one target coupon and one manufacture coupon. I don’t really need to say much, because I’m sure you understand your coupon policy.
With that being said, I have had the worst customer service my whole entire life at Target the other day, 06/08/2013 @ 3:00 P.M. in West Little Rock Target Store. I have been couponing for almost a year and I have now fully understood the coupon policy and how to follow the rules. I want to coupon the right way so that the stores are actually getting their money back so that they are still on top and not loosing profit.
As I was in line with my 4 Kandoo products (007070056), 4 Oral B 2 ct. (049091422), 1 Oral B battery operated toothbrush (049091420), 2 Almay Make-up Remover (052010116), and 1 OPI Nail Polish (I forgot to write down the product #). I had my Kandoo coupons, (for $2.00 off any Kandoo products) printed online thru the website. The very first one I printed it came out color and took up the whole space of the paper. I didn’t want that one to go to waste, so I was going to use it anyway. The last 3 were more coupon size, and I printed it out black and grayscale, because I ran out of color. The rest of my coupons were from the newspapers, ($4.00 off on any Almay cosmetic product, $7 off on any Oral B Toothbrush Replacement Head 2-3 ct., $3 off on any Oral-B Adult Battery Toothbrush, $1.00 off any OPI Nail Color Product).
Before I checked out, I gave her all of my coupons. It was a new team member, so I fully understood that another team member, Betty, came and checked on her. To make sure she was following the Target coupon policy. The new team member was really friendly and patient, but however Betty, on the other hand was so not nice. I also understand that she has all the right to be frustrated and mad if she doesn’t enjoy her job, maybe it’s not suitable for her. I know that most Target workers that I have met are usually friendly and really nice, even when they didn’t understand the coupons or corrected me. She gave me a hard dirty stare and talked really rudely to me, which I don’t think that is part of their training. If so, Target would not survive a day with that kind of customer service. All of my coupons were rejected and saying I could not use it, and that she understood Target’s Coupon Policy better than me. In frustration, I asked to speak to the manager, and before she gets the manager she already said, “I know she’s going to say the same thing”. When the manager came over, and I spoke about my coupon and the coupon policy, she looked confused, and then agreed with her team member. She still didn’t fully understand so we went to the customer service, where Tamikia (I’m sure another manager) had to step in and help. She seemed really nice, until she ACCUSED me of making photocopies of the Kandoo coupons. This is what she said to me, “You think I’m stupid and that I don’t think I know the black and white coupons of the Kandoo are copies. I know for a fact that you MADE copies of these, which we will NOT accept.” She literally ACCUSED me of being a thief and trying to steal these products, when I rightfully printed them online. On top of that it was scanning correctly into the system. Then she said my $7.00 coupons were not going to be accepted because it was a higher value than the product itself. I told her on your coupon policy it says “coupon amount may be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied. I also told Tamika and the other manager that I was fully aware that there are no overages, or that I didn’t expect any money back from Target. Tamika proceeded to tell me in an attitude voice, “I know what our coupon policy is and you can use this. I’m going to let you use these Kandoo coupons, but you will never be able to do this again.” She made me feel disgusted about myself that I was stealing your products and money, also even made me feel like she was DOING me a FAVOR. When I think outright without the customers there is NO BUSINESS for Target, and she wouldn’t even get paid. So in my head I wanted to tell her that I was doing her a favor by shopping at Target and instead of Walmart. Which I did not waste my breath on because she also refused my Almay Coupons saying that the makeup remover was not cosmetic and my $3.00 off coupon for the battery operated toothbrush was not the right one (which was if you check my product). Then other lady manager also spoke her 2 cents in and said “Plus on the coupon it says per purchase, which means per transaction and I could only use one per day”. To my understanding and knowledge of coupons, now correct me if I’m wrong, per purchase means per item. I have never had any problems with using 3 or 4 alike coupons as long as I have 3-4 items of that product (basically one coupon per product, not one coupon for 3 products.) I also know target has a limit of only 4 alike coupons, which is stated on the coupon policy. Itis also stated on the coupon if it has a restriction to how many can be used in one transaction or per day. My OPI coupon was not accepted because she said they do not accept coupons on sale items. Which was OUTRAGEOUS, and that was my last straw, and I told her I will never shop at this Target ever again. Never anywhere does it say on the coupon policy I cannot buy the product with a coupon if it’s on sale. To be honest, I do all the time, and it has worked for me ALL THE TIME. It was never for free of course I still had to pay $1 or $2 out of my pocket. Also if that was a rule on the policy it was never written on the store coupon policy and the rest of the other Targets I shopped at mis-understood the rules and were letting me buy the sale products with a coupon. So in the end I did not purchase anything, but only the Kandoo products.
My friends and I have never been so insulted in front of other shoppers or in public. What happen to me at Target, also happen to my friends while they were checking out too. If this is how Target trains their team members and managers, we will NEVER SHOP with Target ever again, nor will our other friends. Plus on top of that I don’t live in the city, so it is a drive for me to shop at Target, when I can literally just go to Walmart. I choose Target because they listen to their customers and want the best for USA, not so money can go to China or other places. If Target does truly care about their customers I don’t want this to happen ever again, or make the wrong person feel like us, felt disgusted and felt as if they were a thief. With all this said, I just want Target to properly train their employees of the coupon policy, so that my next shopping trip will not be the same experienced. I want to thank your time for reading my letter and I’m hoping to hear back from you.

Loyal Customer,
Yoki Yang

Thank you very much for your comment about Target. Now I know I am not the only one that is having the same treatment. Target is very rude and disrespectfully, managers have no clue how the coupon policy works and make up there own store policy. They have decided at store level they can do whatever they want. None of their target coupons scan, I even called the cooperate office to explain to me if there is a fine print regarding a min purchase that I needed to spend because they are not accepting the coupons. She even couldn’t answer my questions. I have stop shopping at Target. I will not be subject to how they great their “GUEST”.

Hello, as a member of the Target Team first I want to apologize to you for the way this situation was dealt with. I come from a lot of years of customer service and this the way we view our guests or how we treat them. I have read over and over our policy tonight and the way it is supposed to be done is Target Coupon, Cartwheel, Manafacturers Coupon, and then your Red Card. Printable coupons are even on our website. I strongly urge you to contact our Home Office Customer service line and discuss this issue with them. Thank you so much for being one of guests and I hope they resolve this issue.

I am writing to inquire about your coupon policy. I was in your store today and tried to use 4 like coupons. The cashier read the coupon fine print before scanning. She said there has been a lot of coupon fraud and they are getting strict on the coupon abuse. The coupon reads limit one coupon per purchase of specific item(s). Limit 4 like coupons in same shopping trip. She said she could only use one that a purchase is a transaction. I know your policy states you take 4 like coupons unless otherwise noted on the coupon. Some coupons read only use 1 or 2. This I understand but when I asked to speak to the manger he said that some people are reselling items and buying in bulk. I am still confused on why both the cashier and manager felt it necessary to put me in the same category as someone who commits fraud and buys to resell. Then the manager said they won’t get paid back by the manufacturer if they ring up 4 of my coupons in one transaction. I told him that I know that is not true. That Target turns them in and in turn gets paid for them. That the manufacturer has no clue who or how many a person uses. I have always loved shopping in your stores. For years your pharmacy has been like family to me. They know our names and always ask about my kids. I visit this location atleast four times a week. I start my day by walking your store some mornings. The staff is always asking if they can help me. It is a clean store and usually my preferred. I am new to using coupons and feel I am being punished for wanting to save money. My experience in your stores is usually great. I left today a detractor and I am not sure that I will be doing anything other than my pharmacy business at this location. If your policy says you will except four like coupons in one transaction how can they say I can not? Please help me become premotor again.

Target says ey have new policy with coupons because the’ve losing money because of customers like us uses coupons. So I look up the policy again but it didn’t say anything like it. Please advice.

Wow! That is wrong, because their coupon policy says it’s allowed. I would report it to customer service and see how they can help!

I was told I could not combine my $5/2 tresemme and the $5 off $15 hair care because after my MQs because my total was less than $15. I was told previously that the total has to be met prior to any coupon being scanned, I just need clarification, and if they changed their policy? Thank you.

I will never shop at Target again. I was told I can only use one coupon,I was trying to use two. When I told the store manager Leon at target store 1040 Dale Mabry, Lutz, FL 33548 they policy was four coupons he’s said it was corporate policy. I advised him corporate policy is four coupon he got very annoyed. So i didn’t push the issue further with him. He allowed me to use one coupon and even asked if I was going to purchase the rest with this transaction.

When I contacted corporate customer service, the customer service said she will call him because the policy is four coupons . She asked me to hold on. When she got back on the phone her attitude changed toward me. She said he refused the coupon because i was buying to much. It was not a inventory issue but a coupon issue because he allowed me to purchase all the items without using coupons. I feel like I was mistreated and bullied because I want to use coupons (which are in their coupon policy limit).

I made the same call to Target customer service two weeks before this incident, not in the spirit of complaining but to figure out the coupon policy. I even contacted the manager to ask the policy. I was told the policy was the same a targets corporate website. I feel singled out and humiliated for trying to use a coupon and have no recourse to help this situation because they lied to cover themselves. When Target let their managers amend the coupon policy as needed they also allow managers to lose business.

I had the same experience yesterday. I tried to use 2 coupons for 4 products. the coupons said $3 off of 2 boxes of granola bars. The cashier was very rude to me and treated me as though I was being greedy. She said i can only use one coupon and that I need to “save the bars for other people too”. I was humiliated. I actually read about their coupon policy before my visit to make sure I was doing everything the right way. I tried to explain to her what the coupon meant and she wouldn’t let me speak. She then snatched a gift card off the counter that she had previously put there for me to use on my next transaction after CHECKINg my hands as though I tried to steal it. I asked for a manager and the manager came over and said I can only use one and then walked away. I told the cashier I didn’t want them and went to talk to the same manager in front of the store. After explaining pretty much the whole coupon policy to him and how to read coupons, he finally agreed that I was not trying to use them fraudulently. His defense the whole time was that they are following instructions stated on the coupon “one per purchAse” and I had to explain that it means per item. I literally had a panic attack in that store and probably won’t go back there. I called customer service and they opened an investigation supposedly because of how the cashier treated me. I really hope that this isn’t something they are telling employees to do because how else would this same issue happen to customers all over the country. Being made to feel humiliated and as though you are stealing is flat out wrong especially when I went out of my way to mKe sure I was following their policy. The manager also said they were having a problem with people using coupons and then returning things for full price. Excuse me I am purchasing items, not returning them! That has nothing to do with me. Require receipts with returns or something but don’t place blame on people who are honestly trying to save a bit of money.
