Extreme Couponing Preview 10/5

Extreme Couponing logo

It’s Wednesday y’all and you know what that means… TLC’s mega-hit Extreme Couponing airs TONIGHT, Wednesday at 10 p.m. Tonight’s episode features Michelle, crazy shame-less shelf clearer and Tyler, a college couponer. I have a feeling I’m going to NOT be a fan of Michelle… UGH!

Watch tonights preview of Extreme Couponing now!

Here are some of my tips to live by when watching the show and while out shopping:

  • Don’t buy out the newspaper stand. Personally, 1 or 2 Sunday newspapers filled with coupons is enough for me to score some awesome deals for myself and my family. Don’t over do it by buying 15 or 20 papers on a single Sunday. Give others a chance to score a paper or two!
  • Don’t clear shelves. Walking into a grocery store and clearing a full shelf of toothpaste (or any item) is not cool. The show may portray these individuals as, “Wow, they just scored 100 boxes of  FREE!”. It’s all for show. Lets give everyone the chance to score these amazing deals!
  • Stockpiling. It’s ok to have a stockpile, but don’t over do it. There is no reason why anyone should have a 9 year supply of toilet paper sitting around. Deals come around more often than you think, so stick to holding on to a 2-3 month supply.
  • Donate. If you have a big enough stockpile, and you think you may not come around to using it all, donate it to a friend, a local church or shelter. Don’t let stuff go to waste!
  • Be positive. Don’t let this show or anyone ruin your experiences and passion for couponing. A lot of coupon-related changes have taken place since the shows premier but we must move on and never give up.
  • Finally, let not forget Extreme Coupning is ENTERTAINMENT, folks.

We’d love to know, will you be watching tonight?

you are so right about not clearing shelves and still using common sense. It’s hard enough getting some clerks to take the coupons the way it is. Thanks : )

    Not a chance.

I completely agree…. Do NOT buy or ALL the papers from the bin & do NOT take the coupons out of the papers (that is “Stealing”) and unfair to the ppl who actual BUY a paper. Also, agree with the stock piling… a person or a family can only use so much. Dont be greedy… share & donate!!!
I watch Extreme Couponing once in a while but dont live for it… some of the ppl on there are just fruit cakes. Some of the scenes are just soo unrealistic & you can tell they are scripted… I mean why would you just start throwing arm fulls of toothbrushes into a cart until it is full…. dont you need to know how many you have, mmmmm
    Just my two cents, lol

Because of the hours i work i visit a 24 hour convience store mostly very early in the morning like before 3am so i had asked her one very early monday morning when i was getting ready to buy my caffiene in a can (amp rockstar what not) if she still had any Sunday papers ( the week before she still had them when i went in) she told me no she just thrown them in the dumpster because i forgot to get one sunday morning ( i told her well dumpster diving before work is out of the question) she was like if i knew you wanted one i would have saved it for you ( she said to me call to make sure that she is working and she will put a couple of papers aside for me and not charge me) so now every very early monday morning before she throws out the sunday papers into the dumpster she will put 2 aside for me knowing i will be in there for my caffiene in a can and i dont need to pay for them because they are going into the dumpster so i dont think that is a bad deal i worked out

Is intersting… tell me something, is there something that i can learn from that show?? NOoo…. So i won’t watch it! .

Sometimes I have to go to several stores to find a newspaper bc people buy them by the bundle. : ( I think there should be a rule that you can only purchase so many papers. Or maybe if you can just buy the inserts. I’d rather pay for the inserts and not the whole paper. I feel so wasteful throwing away that big stack of news paper.

I voted for the Free Freebie site. I love to try samples.

  • Julia October 5, 2011, 10:06 PM

I just buy the inserts from a site.. I was on bed rest(recently had our baby) and with my husband doing everything alright I didnt want to add picking up a paper to list. Sure I could have one delivered but thats a waste of the rest of the paper!

I live in NC — and this is the first time that someone from the state has been on the show. There was an article in our Raleigh based paper about the woman, and the store she shopped at. The admitted that they agreed to do the show in hopes of showcasing that you can coupon there, and therefore drumming up more business. But they now regret it completely! They dropped all of their coupon policies for the show — allowing a ton of the same coupon, doubling all the coupons [when they typically ONLY double the 1st 20 coupons you present the cashier] and now people are upset with the store because they arent able to recreate the woman’s deals! What people dont realize is that most stores dont ALLOW someone to buy 100+ of one item and use that many coupons doubled, etc on a shopping trip!! Its providing unreal expectations for people!

I call myself the “not so extreme extreme couponer”. I keep a small stockpile, use my extras to send care packages to the troops and I try very hard not to clear a shelf (unless there are only 2 or 3 items left and I need them). I do love watching the show and you are so right about it being entertainment.

I agree with Jennifer. I too am a “not so extreme extreme couponer”. When I first started, I have to admit, there was a thrill in buying items so cheap or getting them for free and went a little over board. After a couple months, I realized how silly it was to have ALL these items for my family of 4. So, I downsized my stockpile by donating to my family, friends and local battered women’s shelter. Now, I stick to a rule that I only purchase enough for my family so I only usually buy 4-5 of the same item. I occasionally will buy more if I see an item my extended family uses and know they can use. I will also occasionally buy more if work/school is having a food/neccessity drive for a charity. I can understand how a person can get caught up in the excitement of a good deal, but when it comes down to it, you have to use your common sense.
