Walmart Announces the End of Ad Matching?!

Walmart logo

Breaking news! We’re hearing reports that Walmart will be phasing out ad matching (in other words price matching too!) at 10% of their stores, starting June 9th. This is about 500 stores total (locations not announced yet) but some readers are already seeing signs up. As of right now, there is no information stating that this is going to happen nationwide. The big bosses at Walmart had an earnings meeting this week and decided on a plan to do away with ad matching at certain stores and focus on lowering the prices even further on everyday products. We shall see!

To be quite honest, I’m a little disappointed. I rarely shop at Walmart but when I do it’s to ad-match. As always, I’ll keep you posted! What do you guys think?

Price matching never works well at my Walmart anyway. They will only price match for an ad that shows a price on one item, like Cheerios for $2.99. They wont price match for ad prices on multiple items like 3/$5. My regular grocery stores usually have better prices and are better with accepting coupons, so I rarely shop for groceries at Walmart.

does this include the Savings Catcher or only price match?

This is actually old news. They introduced the savings catcher to phase out ad matching. Ad matching was always going to go away. I’m honestly surprised it took them this long.

Price matching is about the only reason I shop at Walmart for groceries. They do a poor job of advertising their groceries & other items. There are items in the store that are less than other stores, but their ads do not reflect these good prices. They need to have ads that entice people to visit the store more than what I currently see.

I’ve been refused ad match and told to use Saving Catcher which DIDN’T find lower price! Pffft Their customer service has gone down a lot lately. I just go to the other stores to find lower prices and only shop at Walmart for things I know are lower/available there.
