Walgreens Coupon Policy Update – NEW CHANGES!

Walgreens Coupon Policy Update – NEW CHANGES!

Oh no! Today, Walgreens updated their official coupon policy and I have some bad news. Here are the new changes:

  • Line #7. Walgreens will not accept coupons that exceed the selling price of an item and no cash back is ever provided in exchange for any coupons.
  • Line #9. For offers when multiple items are purchased and additional items are free (buy 1 get 1 free; buy 2 get 1 free, etc.), the number of coupons applied to that offer cannot exceed the number of items required in the “buy” portion of the offer.
  • Line #10. Coupons may not be applied against any free item received in any offer (See 7 above).

Basically, it says they wil NOT accept coupons that exceed the value of the item. So if your coupon is for $1.50 and the item is on sale for $1, you’re out of luck. Previously they just adjusted the coupon down to the value of the item but no more. Also, they will NOT allow multiple coupons on a Buy 1 Get 1 FREE sale, Buy 1 Get 2 FREE sale etc. Previously they allowed one coupon per item including the free item. Finally, you will NOT be allowed to use a coupon towards a free item like in a BOGO sale. Read the full Walgreens Coupon Policy here!

You may want to print it out and bring it with you on your shopping trips. I’m disappointed to say the least! 🙁

Thanks dealmama and Amanda!

Things just get worse every day at Walgreens. The sales are not good like they were last year. Now the 20% off sale is for REGULAR priced items only. I don’t bother to go any more.I might as well use up all my rewards and call it a day.

i work at Walgreens and I am so happy about these changes. i coupon myself, but there are some eople who take advantage of those kinds of coupons. Its ridiculous. Bravo!

indeed!! I like to save money as much as anyone ( I work in retail also) and some customers take advantage and it is ridiculous…so THANK these “super” couponers for this

Thank goodmess walgreens finally got tired of being taken by the crazy coupon queens.

While I understand being negative about people who abuse coupon policies, the reality is that if they accept two coupons for 2 purchased items they will be reimbursed for both coupons. I’m not really sure how that’s being taken advantage of. Nothing annoys me more than people who are dishonest or use coupons the way they’re not intended to be used, as long as people were using them according the the policy I don’t see the big deal. Walgreen’s still got paid.

Walgreen is always changing their rules. They did that with RR to points and vice versa. Because of it they lost many customers, this will set back more losses of customer, me included.

These stores are a trip! They do all these revisions to make it more difficult for us to get everyday items, but I bet they put in the max value when they submit the coupon for repayment.

  • Lulu May 30, 2014, 11:29 AM

I hate Walgreens! CVS is coming soon in our area and they will be across the street. I am sure they will pull a good bit of Walgreen’s business. The cashiers are becoming so annoying these days and smart off about coupons. It is not coming out of their pockets and Walgreens will be reimbursed for the coupon. I haven’t shopped at Walgreens in weeks just because they are down right a pain to deal with. I am paying for my purchases and NOT stealing. The sales are becoming annoying they are not sales and they mark up the prices and alot more expensive than most stores.

  • wanda May 30, 2014, 1:00 PM

    Boo!!

All retailers will eventually do this. Coupons cut into their profit margin. No business is in business to go broke at the expense of giving away merchandise for free. Extreme couponing pushes the envelope almost to the point of greed. When one person buys all the product on the shelf, there is nothing left to sell to other customers. They only get so much in their distribution allotment which is set up by the buyers for the company. You have to have some insight into the way retail and distribution works. Nothing wrong with using coupons to buy one or two of each item, but extreme couponing cuts deep into their bottom line. It’s just a matter of time before all retailers either limit coupons or refuse them all together. And that will come about because of those who don’t play fair with them, and with other consumers who want to purchase these items, but can’t because they’re wiped out.

      • Anonymous May 30, 2014, 5:54 PM

You may want to get some of your facts straight. Stores don’t lose money buy the use of coupons, the get reimbursed the full value of the coupon plus about 8 cents handling fee. Therefore, it doesn’t hurt their profit margin. I agreed that extreme couponing of clearing shelves might be going a little far, but getting a couple items for free is in no way hurting the store. If they put a $5 item on sale for $2, they aren’t getting that $3 from anyone, even non-couponers. If I have a coupon for $2 off that product, I may get it for free, but the store is still get $2 from the manufacturer. Why does it matter if the $2 is from me or them? Aka the store isnt losing money as long as people use the coupons correctly

      • Toni June 5, 2014, 11:44 AM

you hit the nail on the head there…extreme couponers are a “GREEDY” bunch, and they do wipe you out of the sell items, and there goes your profits! small stores are not big box retailers (Wal-Mart) that buy truck loads of a sell item, that can be keep in the backroom to restock. I wish we could refuse them (they get around limits by making multiple purchases)

  • marianna May 30, 2014, 3:17 PM

And one more thing… everyone needs to pay attention to the actual coupons. Even the manufacturers are placing limits on their coupons. One item per customer per purchase per day. Don’t believe me, start looking at them. I know they’re on Community Coffee coupons and others are following suit. Coupons cost everyone money, the manufacturer, the vendor, the distributor and the retailer. Eventually,, that loss will get passed on to the consumer in higher prices.

Coupons are just smart shopping!!! I look on line and newspapers and get coupons in the mail. I use them the way they say. When Walgreens started charging full price when you used coupons and full price for sales I stopped shopping. I was so happy when they got caught!!! I am glad someone was watching. There are people who try to abuse the use of coupons. I think those people should be told they can not use coupons and let the rest of us who use them right and save a lone. I hope everyone else will stop shopping at Walgreens and I bet they will wish they had not changed how we use coupons! I found other stores that dont mind taking coupons

Anonymous. There’s no reason to be rude, and please don’t assume that I do not know the facts. I worked in a retail establishment for 13 years in distribution as well as the buying sector. I am well aware of what the standards are. Maybe this is why I have a better understanding of why retailers are fighting the extreme couponing craze.

  • lisa Rosario May 30, 2014, 9:16 PM

BBoo! I guess i’ll be shopping elsewhere . Very disappointing .

I stopped going to Walgreens long time ago. CVS takes expire CVS bucks, you can have several EB towards one item. They are super friendly, know our family by name.

  • Kybgg June 1, 2014, 10:03 AM

Not all CVS take expired CVS bucks. In Florida this winter there were big signs on the registers stating that they no longer accepted expired CVS bucks. I personally can understand not being able to use a coupon for the free item in a B2G1 free, etc. You are already getting it for free, what more do you want? Or perhaps you think the manufacturer should pay you to take their product home? I love coupons, but I try to keep my expectations realistic.
