Redbox Increases Prices on DVD Rentals

Redbox

Wow, this was totally unexpected! Beginning Monday, October 31, the daily rental charge for DVDs will change from $1 a day to $1.20 a day at most locations. This is Redbox’s first national price change in eight years. Rental prices on Blu-ray Discs ($1.50 per day) and video games ($2 per day) will remain the same. Although, if your still looking to snag a $1 DVD rental, go to Redbox.com to reserve any DVD (even new releases) for $1 for the first day through 11/30. For full details, head over to Redbox Price Change!

We’d love to know, what are you thoughts on the new price hike?

That’s not too bad…but I’m glad I also have a blockbuster express not to far and they usually have a ton of codes to use for free $1 rentals. Now if only they would move the “hot list” and “in-stock guarantee” movies through a little quicker so it’s not just a buck off but acutally free, lol.

not a bad increase at all. Thanks for the heads up.

    *off topic*:
Can you PLEASE stop blogging about Extreme couponing? I HATE that show, and it has ruined couponing for us. I hate when you promote it, and I feel like others feel the same exact way. pleaseeeeeee listen! a lot of others agree with me here. I read a lot of comments on your Facebook page

I agree, I work at a kroger and our coupon policy keeps changing and they even say its bc of this show =(

      I agree 100% with Linda!

It bothers me to no end to see all these awesome blogs posting about that ridiculous show.

Honestly I used to visit this blog very frequently in the past, but lately, most of the posts are about that ridiculous show.. so I just check in once or twice a week now. I don’t know what it is, but everytime something even reminds of that show, I get very irritated. that show has ruined couponing

I also think that show is lousy and FALSE. This week’s show was filmed near me and I’m familiar with that store chain. From what I could see, she didn’t follow any of the store coupon policies. Gives people false expectations and makes stores tighten their policies! Bah, Humbug!

Redbox has been a 1.15 in NC for awhile now. Did it not go up everywhere?

  • OcalaMom October 27, 2011, 6:21 PM

Still a better deal than Netflix! We joined the “Drop Netflix” club (kept the streaming for our son), and haven’t regretted it!

  • Angela October 27, 2011, 6:42 PM

The price has been $1.20 for a couple of months here in AZ. Definitely still a better deal than anywhere else 🙂

how long do the blockbuster express stay on the hot list for?

i hate that couponing show too.

  • CJ October 27, 2011, 8:41 PM

Its only .20, not too bad. I hope they continue to offer the free rental code by text every month.

  • vic October 27, 2011, 9:25 PM

My free coupon has not worked the last two times they sent me one and the last one said it as only good for the ONE day. I can’t possibly schedule my life around their ONE day.

Yea, the couponing show is ruining couponing for everyone. I refuse to watch it.

I hate the couponing show, but the show isnt the cause of this fee increase. Its caused by banks raising fees on debit cards. I’m not able to watch movies at theatres so getting a DVD for $1.20 is still a great price for me. I’m glad for any free code Red Box releases, even if just for one day. If I can use it, great, if not I can wait for the next one.

Redbox in Portland, Oregon is also $1.15 the one by the Mcdonalds near Portland State University =)

  • Crystal G October 28, 2011, 3:24 PM

It’s been a $1.30 here in Tx for a while I hope that doesn’t mean it is going up more.
