Extreme Couponing Preview 10/19

Extreme Couponing logo

It’s Wednesday y’all and you know what that means… TLC’s hit show Extreme Couponing airs TONIGHT, Wednesday at 10 p.m. Tonight’s episode features Melissa and her younger sister Marcy as they shop for coupon deals. Two extreme couponers are better than one? Right?

Watch tonights preview of Extreme Couponing now!

Here are some of my tips to live by when watching the show and while out shopping:

  • Don’t buy out the newspaper stand. Personally, 1 or 2 Sunday newspapers filled with coupons is enough for me to score some awesome deals for myself and my family. Don’t over do it by buying 15 or 20 papers on a single Sunday. Give others a chance to score a paper or two!
  • Don’t clear shelves. Walking into a grocery store and clearing a full shelf of toothpaste (or any item) is not cool. The show may portray these individuals as, “Wow, they just scored 100 boxes of  FREE!”. It’s all for show. Lets give everyone the chance to score these amazing deals!
  • Stockpiling. It’s ok to have a stockpile, but don’t over do it. There is no reason why anyone should have a 9 year supply of toilet paper sitting around. Deals come around more often than you think, so stick to holding on to a 2-3 month supply.
  • Donate. If you have a big enough stockpile, and you think you may not come around to using it all, donate it to a friend, a local church or shelter. Don’t let stuff go to waste!
  • Be positive. Don’t let this show or anyone ruin your experiences and passion for couponing. A lot of coupon-related changes have taken place since the shows premier but we must move on and never give up.
  • Finally, let not forget Extreme Coupning is ENTERTAINMENT, folks.

We’d love to know, will you be watching tonight?

this show has ruined it for us up here in Upstate NY. Price Chopper used to double a dollar. But since the show has aired they only double to 99 cents because of being afraid to have the cameras in the store. GRRRRR!

Tell that to the participant in the show. Do they offer up the same advice as you Ro, because it’s the right, moral advice for the situation.

We are having the same issue here in Oregon as you karie since the show two of our huge stores have cut there doubles to “one” per household per week! I have been an avid couponer for 10 years, I carry a coupon binder the size of a small child lol and find the T.V program to be a bit of false advertising. YES, what they do can be done with the stores bending the rules. But the last two showes I have watched I was a little shocked to see they were in a Safeway which only allowes 4 doubles per transaction “Per Household” this was a show based in Wahington state so those rules do apply. But for the show the store allowed the whole order to be doubled I belieave. Also there are coupone being purchased online, which I do as well.. This cost is not being figured into there budget? This makes a difference to the bottom line why is this not shown on the show? I find this quite confusing, because when I am stopped in the store with a thousand questions I have to explain these cost and this always comes up and the famous statement is “They don’t tell you that in the show” It is just crazyness but like all changes hopefully they will go away or die down like most things do

Why would I? This show is ridiculous

I have to say I love the show even though it is obviously way over the top. I am very new to couponing but thus far have enjoyed it and I have to give credit to Extreme Couponing for finally lighting the fire to get started. It really is thrilling to get great deals on items I needed anyway!

Oh, and the lady last week was from the same town I live in (Thornton, CO) and I have to tell you that King Soopers where she shopped would never have let that go down if the cameras hadn’t been rolling. They have pretty strict policies on coupons.

I refused to watch the show last season, but I started watching it this season just to get me pumped about my shopping trip this weekend. But this show is not what real couponing is about. No one has hundreds of the same coupon. It’s cook that they get all that stuff for super cheap, but that probably would never happen in a real situation. I would like to hear if anyone has ever saved like 98% on a $1200 order. If they really did, it would be cool. But I seriously think the producers feed these people coupons to help make their show.

      I agree with you totally

    Hi All,
Thank you so much for sharing. I have couponed for over twenty five years, and agree that the show makes it bad for the rest of us. I have noticed a change in attitude of most of the stores I shop at, towards people using coupons. The cashiers are very judgemental, and have an attitude as soon as you approach with a stack of coupons. I tell my friends smile anyway, be polite, and make sure the coupons are all good and the items have been purchased. It is still fun for me, and I keep a large stock pile because I have a large family. I also help my three adult sons and thier families. Enjoy, and happy shopping.

Yes i agree. I wont even watch it. Rite Aid by us has even taken away the 3$ off 15$ purchase for a survey. I used to be able to save about 90% on my Rite Aid purchases. But now I rarely go in there. I am excited however that Shop Rite has opened in Nisky, NY. My bill was 384$ last week and I only paid 159$. I even got meat and produce deeply discounted. So I was pretty happy with that. Good luck in finding the deal ladies in a normal fashion.

this show is a fun one to watch however I see so many starving and doing without that it upsets me to see these people with such a huge stockpile. Like you everybody deserves a break now a days it gets harder and harder to make ends meet that is why I have started using coupons. Im not an expert so I would love some how to’s on saving even more. Our local stores are asking to put the coupon with the item so it helps them out. After your total is rang up It is so much fun when one of the checkers shout ” Great Shopping” Love it
